Instructions

Setup

Standing tall, hold a dumbbell in each hand with your arms hanging by your sides. Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine.

Execution

  1. From a standing position, take a large step backward with your right leg, crossing it behind your left leg.

  2. Simultaneously, begin to lower your hips by bending both knees. Ensure your front knee remains aligned with your front ankle.

  3. Lower yourself until your trailing knee is just above the floor, and your front thigh is roughly parallel to the ground. Maintain an upright torso throughout the movement.

  4. Push through the heel of your front foot to return to the starting standing position.

Important Details

  • Diagonal Motion: The focus is on the sweeping diagonal motion to engage the lateral hips and glutes.

  • Control: Keep the movement controlled; do not let your back knee slam into the ground.

  • Alignment: Ensure your front knee does not cave inward; actively push it outward as you descend.
