Instructions

Setup

Stand with one foot slightly behind the other for a staggered stance. Hold one dumbbell in the hand opposite the forward leg, letting it hang down towards the floor.

Execution

  1. Hinge: Slightly hinge at your hips while keeping your back flat to lower the dumbbell toward the ground.

  2. Pull: Explosively drive through your hips and extend your legs, pulling the weight vertically close to your body.

  3. Press/Catch: As the momentum of the weight slows near the top, transition to a pressing motion or punch through to lock the dumbbell out directly overhead in one fluid movement.

  4. Return: Carefully lower the dumbbell back to the shoulder and then return to the starting position.

Key Tips

  • Keep the core braced and the back neutral throughout the movement to avoid injury.

  • Focus on using your legs and hips for power rather than just your arm.
