Dumbbell Single-Arm Snatch Overhead Lunge
Build explosive power and rock-solid core stability with this dynamic hybrid move. It combines a high-intensity snatch with a controlled overhead lunge to challenge your balance and total-body strength.
Instructions
Setup and Movement
Preparation: Start standing with your feet hip-width apart, holding a single dumbbell in one hand between your legs.
The Snatch: Drive through your hips and legs to explosively pull the dumbbell upward, keeping it close to your body. As the weight rises, catch it in an overhead position with your arm extended and locked out.
The Lunge: While maintaining the dumbbell locked out directly overhead, step backward into a lunge with the leg on the same side as the holding arm (or opposite, as your program dictates). Keep your torso tall and your core tight to resist rotation.
Drive Up: Push through the front heel to return to the starting standing position while keeping the dumbbell stable overhead.
Return: Lower the weight safely back to the starting hanging position before completing your next repetition.
Form Tips
Core Stability: Engage your abdominal muscles throughout the movement to balance the uneven load of the overhead dumbbell.
Gaze: Keep your eyes focused forward or slightly up towards the weight to maintain alignment.
Controlled Descent: Do not let the overhead weight dictate your lunge tempo; remain in control through the entire descent.
