Instructions
Setup
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with palms facing your torso.
Keep your core engaged and maintain a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement.
Movement
Initiate the movement by raising both arms simultaneously out to your sides.
Stop the lift when your arms are roughly at a 45-degree angle from your body, or until they are nearly parallel to the floor, but do not lock out at the top.
Maintain a consistent, controlled tempo, avoiding excessive momentum or swinging of the torso.
Briefly pause at the peak of the contraction, then slowly lower the weights back to the starting position without letting the dumbbells fully rest against your thighs between repetitions.
Key Tips for Success
Keep the movement focused on the deltoids; do not allow your traps to shrug upward during the lift.
Imagine you are pouring two pitchers of water as you reach the top of the movement to ensure the lateral deltoid remains the primary mover.
Focus on a smooth, rhythmic motion rather than trying to lift the heaviest weight possible, which can lead to poor form.
