Instructions

Setup

Standing with feet shoulder-width apart, hold a dumbbell in each hand with palms facing your torso. Keep your back straight, core engaged, and gaze forward.

Movement

  1. With a slight bend in your elbows, exhale as you lift the dumbbells out to the sides.

  2. Continue lifting until your arms are approximately parallel to the floor, forming a 'T' shape with your body.

  3. Hold briefly at the top of the movement, focusing on contracting the side of your shoulders.

  4. Inhale as you slowly and under control return the weights back toward your starting position.

Key Tips

  • Avoid shrugging your traps; keep your shoulders down away from your ears.

  • Maintain a controlled tempo, avoiding momentum or swinging the weights to complete the rep.

  • Ensure you are lifting straight out to the side rather than in front of your body.
