Instructions

Setup

  • Lie flat on an exercise bench with a dumbbell in each hand.

  • Keep your feet firmly planted on the floor for stability.

  • Retract your shoulder blades and puff your chest out to maintain proper shoulder positioning.

Execution

  • Start at the top position with the dumbbells held above your chest with a slight bend in your arms.

  • Lower the weights in a wide arc until you feel a deep stretch in your pectoral muscles.

  • Crucially, only return to the halfway point of the movement before descending again.

  • Do not allow the weights to touch at the top, as this will shift the tension off your chest and into your shoulders.

  • Maintain a consistent, controlled tempo, focusing on the eccentric (lowering) phase to maximize the stretch.
